Ministers of sound - Dave Haslam dissects the rise and fall of starry DJs and club culture

The second half of the 1990s was the golden age of the big name club DJs, according to Dom Phillips. Sasha, Judge Jules, Paul Oakenfold and Fatboy Slim had become stars, regularly commanding fees of £10,000-plus for a three-hour set. DJs had graduated from behind the decks to the front cover of magazines, and, in Fatboy Slim's case, the tabloids, courtesy of his relationship with ZoĆ« Ball.

Acid house - the dance music revolution - was into its second phase. Illegal warehouse parties and unlicensed raves had been replaced by superclubs such as Cream and Ministry of Sound; Radio One schedules were emptied to make room for Pete Tong, Dave Pearce and Judge Jules; and dance music compilation albums were capable of selling 500,000 copies or more. Outcast Love # 7 - ANDREW ALLSGOOD

So we reach seventh heaven in the outcast love mix series with the Canadian connection, Andrew Allsgood. Andrew graced our disco dive last November after playing Lowlife / London the night before, a little tired he took the decks & played an outstanding mix of lo slung funk & disco beauties.

The mix he has delivered here is a melting pot of funk rock disco & several of his own productions - personally i'm a huge fan of his work with 'disco pigs in space' & 'penny's illin' being played from the creation of the disco outcasts parties at the cat..

Andrew Allsgood has been Djing for 10 years this year and is one of Toronto's most diverse DJs. He plays across the board and can go from genre to genre smoothly in no time! In the 13 years he's been at it he has held residencies at Gypsy Co-op, The Social, Fez Batik and SYNCHRO @ Andy Pool Hall. He also does his Monthly Electropunkfunktecnoacid party, FASCINATION on the last Saturday of each month at Andy Pool Hall. One of the hardest working Dj's in Toronto Andrew was employed by Fusion 3, one of Canada's leading music importer/distributors for close to 10 years. Hence Andrew's passion for eclectic dancefloor tunes. "Music is my life" is his motto so go hit him up and give him a pound when you see him behind the decks at a party near you. It's bound to be rocking!
